Meet Sylvia MBemba

The early days, building a systems mindset

I began my career as an electronics engineer. Engineering trained me to think in systems: how components interact, where pressure builds, and what happens when decisions are made with limited resources, structure, or information. That way of thinking has shaped every stage of my professional life, well beyond the technical domain.

Early learning in recruitment, judgement, trade-offs, and risk

In 2009, I founded STERLING5 Partners, a boutique recruitment agency supporting engineering- and science-led organisations across Europe, the Middle East, and Australia. Working closely with founders and technical leaders, I saw first-hand that recruitment is never just about filling roles. It is about judgement, trade-offs, timing, and risk; particularly in competitive or fast-moving environments where mistakes compound quickly.

Learning in-house, seeing the long-term impact of people decisions

After seven years leading my own agency, I moved in-house into Senior Interim Talent Acquisition roles. Working across publishing, consulting, deep tech, energy, and biotech sectors, with Oxford University spin-outs and international scale-ups. I supported growth, international expansion, post-acquisition integration, and organisational change. Often at moments where people decisions carried lasting consequences for teams, culture, and performance.

What experience accumulates over time

Across these roles, one pattern became clear: organisations struggle not because they lack ambition, but because people decisions are made without enough structure or shared understanding. My work has always sat at the intersection of people, systems, and growth; bringing clarity where things feel messy and calm where pace and expectations collide. Having navigated my own career evolution, I understand what change looks like from the inside: the uncertainty, the recalibration of identity, and the importance of being seen for potential as well as experience.

How these experiences shape my work today

Today, I work as a Talent Capital Partner, supporting growing organisations in designing recruitment and people systems that are intentional, scalable, and human. My role is not to chase speed, but to protect decision quality; not to add noise, but to bring judgement.

Born in France, raised in Congo-Brazzaville, and now based in England, my perspective is international, my approach is systems-led, and my work is grounded in one belief: people are not resources to consume, but capital to cultivate.
